Actually it is impossible to be an expert on network marketing yourself.
There is just to much stuff to know. If anyone claims to be an expert they are lying. If you want to be a leader in network marketing you need to make sure you have a group, a mastermind of people that you can turn to foranswers. Don't ever lie about an answer so you don't look bad, that is destructive ego and is not beneficial to your business. Remember you have the hopes and dreams of real people and they are looking for guidance and truthfulness when you teach them. Having leaders and mentors that bring there specialty to the group is the only way to really be successful in this industry. So you don't have to be an expert, but you can point to someone who is, on a certain subject. One of my mentors has been in network marketing for over 20 years. If I were to ask him a question on how to create back links for my blog so I can get more visits to my site and get a higher listing Google search, he would tell me to go to Don, another mentor, and ask him. He is the expert on that. You don't need to be an expert. You just have to know where or from whom you can get the answer. You need to be a professional pointer. You also have to have a place or person to point them to. You cannot build this business by yourself, many have tried all have failed. The only ones that have been successful or have a real opportunity to be successful, are the ones who have a mastermind group. A group of leaders and mentor's that are combined and work together, can be an expert in network marketing.
A little story about Henry Ford
---During the world war, a Chicago newspaper published certain editorials in
which, among other statements, Henry Ford was called “an ignorant
pacifist.” Mr. Ford objected to the statements, and brought suit against
the paper for libeling him. When the suit was tried in the Courts, the
attorneys for the paper pleaded justification, and placed Mr. Ford, himself,
on the witness stand, for the purpose of proving to the jury that he was
ignorant. The attorneys asked Mr. Ford a great variety of questions, all of
them intended to prove, by his own evidence, that, while he might possess
considerable specialized knowledge pertaining to the manufacture of
automobiles, he was, in the main, ignorant.
Mr. Ford was plied with such questions as the following:
“Who was Benedict Arnold?” and “How many soldiers did the British send
over to America to put down the Rebellion of 1776?” In answer to the last
question, Mr. Ford replied, “I do not know the exact number of soldiers the
British sent over, but I have heard that it was a considerably larger number
than ever went back.”
Finally, Mr. Ford became tired of this line of questioning, and in reply to a
particularly offensive question, he leaned over, pointed his finger at the
lawyer who had asked the question, and said, “If I should really WANT to
answer the foolish question you have just asked, or any of the other
questions you have been asking me, let me remind you that I have a row
of electric push-buttons on my desk, and by pushing the right button, I
can summon to my aid men who can answer ANY question I desire to ask
concerning the business to which I am devoting most of my efforts. Now,
will you kindly tell me, WHY I should clutter up my mind with general
knowledge, for the purpose of being able to answer questions, when I
have men around me who can supply any knowledge I require?”

If you have not read the book yet then do so.Henry Ford was not an expert on everything in HIS industry. He had a group of people that he could point to and get the answer. Ask for help if you need it, and if you can't find it through your upline, then you need to find a group of people or create a group of people to work together to be experts.
